Another fine spring day...........
Monday was another beautiful cloudless spring day in south Hokkaido..............
Glaucous Gulls are common at this time of year and are brilliant white on days like today.
The 500 f4 is not a great BIF lens for large birds close up............
It worked nicely with the Dunlin nearby.............
The flock seems smaller than in previous years, or hopefully it is just more spread out in 2017.
The sick (?) Black Scoter hadn't moved since the day before..............
It looks OK except for its eyes which kept flickering open and shut, it was also shivering a bit. Hopefully it will recover and join the many groups of scoters calling on the sea.
Other stuff around today included Great-crested Grebe, 2 White-fronted Geese, some singing Skylarks, Great Egret, lots of common ducks, White-winged Scoter, Redpoll, Common Buzzard, Whooper Swan etc. At Onuma there were still a few Smew and at least 2 White-tailed Eagles.
The colony of Great Cormorant and Grey Heron at Yakumo is getting busier. Strange to think only 4 or 5 weeks ago the same trees had a dozen or more eagles perching in them.

Send me one of those sunny days Stu. In the meantime I do like that Scoter, even if it's a little sickly.
ReplyDeleteWell it's cloudy today, maybe the sunshine has headed west.........
DeleteI am not sure that I ever seen a Glaucous Gull as pristinely white as the one here. Great flight shot too.
ReplyDeleteThanks David..........
