End of year blizzards #1

Just back from a short trip away with my parents, we managed to cram in 3 separate visits to Yakumo. Unfortunately it was snowing heavily most of the time.............

A Shorelark on the beach at Kamiiso 3 years ago today.

This is still the only one I've ever seen, I can recall trudging along beaches in NW England in winter gales looking for them. Unsuccessfully.

There were a dozen or so Black Necked Grebes around christmas in the port at Kamiiso.............

Christmas in Onuma

We spent christmas with my parents in Onuma.................

Snow..................

Well I promised my parents a white christmas..................and it's hardly stopped snowing since they arrived.

A juvenile Night Heron was the only bird of note on a short walk this afternoon. It's been snowing since I headed back a few hours ago with a lot forecast for the next few days. This bird had better think about heading south. Soon.

Hello Kitty

A close up of a Black Legged Kittiwake in Menegawa this morning. Annoyingly the harbour was the only place in the whole area under clouds, there were lots of them to-ing and fro-ing but my BIF attempts were not great (also I had the 1.4 extender on). White birds against dark grey skies just doesn't work.

Not much else around. A few Crossbill in the east of town, that's about it.................

Last week at Yakumo there were only a handful of eagles, today there lots.

After some snow last night the forest at Onuma was full of birds..............

Winter is coming

2 common winter birds in Kamiiso this afternoon. Very very dark and overcast. Handheld from the car.

A strong wind from Siberia, snow flurries in the air and Glaucous Gulls on the beach. Winter is coming..................

After having my 2 days off ruined by horrible weather the sunshine came back as I returned to work...............

Luckily I could sneak a couple of hours in at Kamiiso and the American Wigeon was still there..............
