A juvenile Night Heron was the only bird of note on a short walk this afternoon. It's been snowing since I headed back a few hours ago with a lot forecast for the next few days. This bird had better think about heading south. Soon.
One must wonder at times how many young birds die because they make the wrong choices about migrating - and other choices in their lives. I hadn't realised that they lived so far north.
Well at least you got a shot of the Heron. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Margaret............

ReplyDeleteThey breed neaby and there are a few hardy individuals which overwinter.....................
DeleteIt's looking very wintery (wintry ?) up there !
ReplyDeleteHi John, you can't see on these photos but there has been a LOT of snow this last few days............
DeleteWe sometimes get Black-crowned Night Herons here right up until the water freezes; juveniles especially seem more prone to linger.
ReplyDeleteI see both adults and juveniles..............but not many of either.
