An afternoon with some eagles...............
The eagles were pretty active at Yakumo this afternoon with many feeding in the river. They are very wary though and fly off as soon as they know they are being watched................
The burst mode of the 7D Mark 2 is handy..............
Some were in trees, briefly.
Downstream there is a viewing point on a windy exposed bridge. The eagles were here too but a little far away..................
Sometimes they fly upstream passing close by...............
Believe it or not I was on the bridge hoping to see a (Northern) Lapwing. One flew over last week very close but it was too dark for a photo. No luck today but I did see this species..................a crappy record shot of a Long Billed Plover.
Nothing much at Onuma, here's a cold looking Great Egret.
Nasty weather forecast this week...................hopefully I can get up to Yakumo a couple of times more before New Year.
The last 7 or 8 months of 2014 have been a nightmare as a Liverpool fan...............hopefully 2015 will be better. Winning the Europa League and depriving 4th place Man Utd of a place in next season's Champions League is the only thing I can hope for.

WOW! These photographs of the Eagles are fantastic. it must have been wonderful to see them.
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret, yes I'm very lucky to have such birds on my doorstep..............
DeleteThey really are an impressive bird - even if they don't like posing for photographers always!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, actually I enjoy getting the flight shots. I do wish I could get some of them feeding or even better squabbling...............
DeleteBrilliant pics, Stu. That Steller's in the tree has a more than massive bill and like the White-tail flying just above its shadow. Seems you had a better Monday afternoon than me at the desk. I wish Nikon had an answer to the 7D ii.
ReplyDeleteHi Russell, well you have the D800 (?) which I lust after.......................just wish I could use my lenses on it.
DeleteHi Stu I especially liked the BIFs but as for the scousers...Abysmal :-(
ReplyDeleteThanks Derek, yes it wasn't pretty viewing.
DeleteNice take-off sequence of the Steller's Eagle. The other BIFs good too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment John, now I need some shots of them pulling a salmon to bits in the snowy river..............
DeleteWhat a great bird - I assume its huge!
ReplyDeleteAny views, distant or otherwise, would be OK with me!
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
