A couple of common harbour birds
East of Hakodate, Brent Geese and Harlequin Ducks are common winter visitors.............
As I was photographing these harlequins near Esan an adult Stellers Sea Eagle flew over very low, one of 2 late ones I'd seen that day. No photo though...........
The Harlequins will be around for a few more weeks.
As will the Brent Geese.
Flocks of this species are scattered around the coasts. There used to be a very tame photogenic group in one of the ports in town but they seem to have relocated. These ones were in one of the ports outside the city to the east.
They like the seaweed...........

Reminds me of Victoria, BC where both these species are quite common. After all, it's just across the Pacific!
ReplyDeleteIt's not so far or different in bird terms I guess, especially as they migrate north to much closer breeding grounds.........
