Some high ISO ducks...........
The small flock of Falcated Duck were at their regular spot.....................
In the morning there were 9 of them in among the Mallards. The female Baikal Teal was also present. It was very early in the morning and still a bit dark plus it was absolutely freezing (minus 16) so the birds were obscured a bit by steam as well as too far away for a decent photo.......................so I gave up.
We passed the same place on the way home late in the afternoon just before sunset. Not great light and although the Falcated Ducks were much closer they were all sleeping. A female swam off...............
I was just about to give up when a passing train briefly woke up some of the drakes. These were handheld but I really should have used a monopod.
DXO Prime handles ISO 1600 on the 7D M2 (not a great high ISO camera like most Canon crop cameras) pretty well..............
The Mallards did get in the way a bit. I cloned 2 of them out of this photo................
Hopefully they'll stick around for the winter and get a bit tamer.............

A very handsome duck indeed which I have never seen.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit of an East Asian specialty I guess...........
