Some calmer berry-eaters............
A Brambling in town yesterday.................
They were much easier to photograph than the Waxwings. The latter are in a tight flock and randomly swoop down onto a tree, any tree (and there are about 50 or so trees to choose from on 4 sides of a very busy crossroads), feed in a frenzy for a few seconds then fly off.
Bramblings on the other hand slowly and methodically feed in the same tree for hours..............
This is a male........
And this is a female..................
This species is usually shy when foraging on the ground but completely ignored me from the safety of the branches.............
It is a common winter visitor but not one I often photograph.................
They were a nice distraction as I got slightly frustrated with the Waxwings..................

Great shots of this species, which I have seen only a few times and never really satisfactorily. I wish that I had been with you to witness their prolonged bout of feeding. The red berries sure enhance the pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks David. I'd wrongly assumed you had them in North America actually............
