1 March 2010
On this day (March 1st)....................
March 1st 2009.
Adult Stellers and White Tailed Eagles atop a streetlight in the port at Rausu.
This was taken just before sunset, the eagles presumably roost in or near the harbour. The eagles appeared to be a common urban bird in northeast Hokkaido, we went out on a cruise to the sea ice the next day to see them up close but we were very unlucky with bad weather meaning the boat couldn't approach the ice. This is what we missed out on.....................
I vowed to go back this winter to get eagles on the ice with blue sky pics but I can't really afford it and next winter I plan to visit England. So 2012 would be the next time I can go to Rausu and see the eagles again. I hope global warming hasn't finished off the ice floes by then.................

You've got a wonderful collection of eagle photographs so don't fret too much. Maybe by 2012 your camera will be a D9!! Imagine the pics you could get then. I haven't seen a Steller's for two years and that was just one very distant one. 4 years ago when I visited Shiretoko I just had a 6mp Pentax and 3 memory cards with space for 90 pics each. ...Get some Red Kite shots next year in England!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Russell. Dunno about the new camera, at least I'll have paid off the installments on the current one.........
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a Red Kite actually................that would be a nice bird to photograph.
'Only' 270 shots! Ah the digital age.......
I don't know how they managed in days of film......
Grrrrrrrrr, I'll give anything to take a picture like this!! Lucky you ;-) This is just a splendid picture, having both of them on the same branch!!
ReplyDeleteRe Red Kite, there have been one or two reported near Preston recently!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos as usual
