A few small surprises
A male Bullheaded Shrike and an immature Black Crowned Night Heron near my flat this afternoon......
After 2 very cold days it was pretty mild and I had a couple of hours spare so I walked upstream, the first time this year.............
The Night Heron looked a bit cold and miserable.
The above species does occasionally overwinter but I'd never seen the shrike in winter before.................
I was also surprised to see a male Pheasant..........but no photos as it flew off immediately.
Also around were Goosander, Kingfisher, Daurian Redstart and Hawfinch.

The shrike is rather nice Stu. Like a colourful female Red-backed or a Lesser Grey.
ReplyDeleteIt's a common summer visitor here but I rarely see it in winter.............
