A scruffy duck
I had a spare hour or so to kill and the weather was mild and sunny so I took a short walk along the local river........................
I was surprised to see this drake Falcated Duck teamed up with a Wigeon.....................
This is one of the most attractive east Asian ducks but as you can see it hasn't finished its moult yet and was looking rather scruffy. I hope it stays a while and looks a bit tidier.............
A Great Egret was nearby.......................
Not great angles,I was looking down from the top of the concrete embankments.
In the park nearby there were a few Dusky Thrushes and Hawfinches. Here's one of the latter. This is a common winter visitor in Hokkaido.................

It's to imagine Hawfinch as a "common" winter visitor. I have never seen one!
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed common here but are very scarce in the UK where i only ever saw one ever.
DeleteWe rarely see hot finches here in Northern Ireland and that is a lovely shot
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret.............
DeleteHawfinch would draw a big crowd here - hope the Falc Teal is re-findable in better plumage later...
ReplyDeleteI hope so too but the heavy snow last night may have moved it south...........
DeleteI don't know what the world is coming to. Even the ducks can't deside which gender they are.
ReplyDeleteWell they can't make hybrids but maybe they can adopt...........
Deletei enjoyed these beautiful photos .Asian ducks are seen here too .
ReplyDeleteloved the duck with dark color i never saw it here around
