A night in Yakumo #1

We spent Sunday night in Yakumo.......................

We had intended to go up early Sunday morning but this plan was scuppered by the fact I had a massive hangover after a bonenkai (the Japanese equivalent of an office christmas party) and was not fit to do anything until after lunchtime.....................

Although the weather was fine we missed most of the day and arrived in the late afternoon just before sunset. We saw several Daurian Jackdaw in a field bathed in golden afternoon light but they flew off before I could get my camera on them. These are scarce winter visitors and are find in flocks of Rooks (also not so common winter visitors). The latter may be a new species, Eastern Rook (below)...........I lose track of this stuff. Both species are very jumpy but this individual wasn't for some reason.

There was just time to see a few eagles in the gloom..................

The morning was fine and even mild (though very icy at first). We went inland and although we saw lots of eagles they didn't seem to be doing much and not many posed for photos. I got some BIFs in the early morning light................

We went downstream to the rivermouth where there were a few feeding in the water.............

Clear blue skies as you can see.................

More to follow...............................

By the way I've switched on comment moderation after getting spammed by several people posting links to NFL games.........................for those living in different time zones I'm sorry if it takes a few hours for your comments to appear.
