3 eagles
A rather frustrating Sunday afternoon............................
Up in Yakumo there were lots of eagles but try as I might I just couldn't get any decent photos. Crap light, wrong settings, falling snow, crappy technique, too far or too near, branches in the way, teleconverters on when they shouldn't have been................take your pick.
This is a mix of pretty much all of the above.
Bird of the day was Mountain Hawk Eagle. this is a resident in the area but much scarcer than the 2 species of sea eagle. We surprised one early in the day.....................
Maybe the same one in a tree later?
Damn twigs.
The Stellers and White-taileds were numerous at least....................

Looks more exciting than frustrating. Doesn't the Mountain Hawk Eagle look like a giant immature Northern Goshawk? At first I thought it was a goshawk with fat wings. I had a similiar view of one when I first got to Niigata but that was 13 years ago, so I'd be thrilled to see another in the snow.
ReplyDeleteI also think they look a bit like Honey Buzzards..............
DeleteJust another ho hum crappy day with three Eagles!!
ReplyDeleteI'm just greedy.............
Delete"White sky" days are a challenge.... and we've all had the TC on when we wished we hadn't. Still, three good Eagles are worth getting out for !
