Hakodate under the snow

With an unusually light workload I took a 90 minute or so walk around the neighbourhood this morning...............and the snow was pretty deep. I was hoping for some waxwings but the only birds around were a few Dusky Thrush and Hawfinch (above).................

Almost no snow until christmas and then lots after, winters are getting shorter.

  1. The berries make a great splash of colour in the Hawfinch shot !

  2. It is a nice pic with the snow and berries. The wind and rains keeps me from birding in Niigata. So dark and miserable.

  3. Hawfinch doesn't seem like a bad consolation prize.

    1. They are a pretty scarce bird in the UK (I've only ever seen them once there) but in south Hokkaido they are very common winter visitors to town..............
