Grebes in the blizzards.............

There were 4 species of grebe in Kamiiso today......................

The above 2 are Slavonian and Great Crested. There were 2 of the former and about a dozen of the latter but the commonest species was Black Necked (over 50 I'd say)...............

There was also a lone Little Grebe, shame a Red Necked didn't put in an appearance to complete the full set.

They were swimming around in a flock and were moving very quickly, presumably chasing fast shoals of small fish around the harbour. I tried some group shots without much success............

It was very dark and there were heavy blizzards, nice to have 2 fairly plae species to photograph then.............

Pochard, Scaup, Goldeneye, Whooper Swan, Peregrine, White Tailed Eagle and Common Buzzard were also around.........

I've just about recovered from what turned out to be influenza. I tested negative for it but the symptoms fit perfectly, the doctor said he was sure it was a false negative result and gave me the flu medicine anyway and the tamiflu pills knocked out the worst of it in a couple of days...............

I couldn't go out last week because of the flu but the snow has been unrelenting, hopefully the colder snap has brought some interesting birds with it.............

  1. Glad you're feeling better (flu or not) and fit enough to get out in a blizzard. Now that's what I call dedication.
