2 Harlequin Ducks at Menagawa. I find this species very hard to photograph, either the highlights are blown or it's too dark. It doesn't help this location faces south so most of the day in winter the sun is behind the birds...................
Still at least on this occasion they were fairly nearby, a couple of days ago they were distant specks bobbing around on the waves.............
Thanks for clicking this link
Great photograph. I've never seen them but would love to.
ReplyDeleteThey do seem hard to photograph, but you managed it pretty well. Lovelly ducks ;)
ReplyDeleteSaw these when we visited Hokkaido in 2006 - fabulous birds !
ReplyDeleteWhen you explained I could see why when thinking about their colouration etc taking pictures might be a bit problematic. But Stu I'm not gonna suffer that dilemma and I'm quite happy with your pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the comments.
ReplyDeleteBasically for a nice shot of this species I think I need soft neutral light, not too bright but not too dark either. Just a bit cloudy would be great.........
