On this day (February 19th)....................

February 19th 2008

Early 2008 saw a big influx of Asian Rosy Finch into south Hokkaido. There are usually some present most winters but they tend to occur in bleak windswept coastal regions. This one was part of a flock that spent 2 or 3 weeks in the small park near my flat.......................

  1. You are doing a great job of selling Hokkaido to me! I am more interested in quality than quantity - even the ubiquitous birds like Varied Tit are smart.
    Eastern Palearctic - get in!

  2. Hi,
This is a nice picture. I've never seen this little fellow!! Is it a wintering bird in your area?

  3. Hi Chris, yes it's a winter visitor. None this winter though........

  4. Hi! Now I'm in Kushiro and finally got to see the cranes yesterday. Tsurui-Itoh is just an awesone place but shame about the snowy weather. Today is the last day for the cranes for me before going to Rausu tomorrow.
