April Ospreys #2
I managed to get some shots of Ospreys fishing yesterday..............
This one dived and caught its lunch..............
Such a great bird to photograph, I'm lucky they are so common here in summer.
I got distracted by an offshore Red Throated Diver and moved down the beach a bit. The diver didn't come close and I missed a great chance to capture a dramatic sequence of photos. An Osprey dived successfully but was mugged by a Slaty Backed Gull. We had been standing right by this place only a few minutes earlier, all I could get where these heavy OOF crops.........
There was also a Black Throated Diver offshore and a Grenshank on one of the nearby rivers as well as the usual common stuff.

I likie that piracy sequence Stu. In the first one we can see what a brute of a size the gull is to be able to rob the Osprey. Haven't seen one again this year - right place, right time etc. Guess I'll nave to head to the Lakes.
ReplyDeleteNever seen one in Lancashire, only at Loch Garten in the UK. I did go to Bassenthwaite one time but didn't see one, much easier to photograph them on rivers anyway.........
DeleteI had no idea that gulls were capable of robbing Osprey of their fish. Great sequence.
ReplyDeleteIt happens all the time actually. Black Kites go after them too.
DeleteI live and learn.
DeleteIt happened 3 times whilst I was watching on Sunday anyway.
DeletePretty nice action shots, Stu. I'm always regretting where I'm standing. Rarely the right spot. Did you use the full 10shots per second of the 7Dii and your amazing 500f4? I'm dreaming of getting such a series with the new Nikon D500 if I'm allowed to get one.
ReplyDeleteHi Russell, yes it was on max fps...........
