Out east
Sunday afternoon, we ended up in a small port on the southeastern point of the peninsula where we live................
There were a lot of common birds about including Red Breasted Merganser.
I find the males very hard to photograph, I have no idea why. They never seem to be in focus and there is too much contrast in their plumage maybe...............
The females seem much easier to cope with..................
Other stuff in the port included several Black Necked Grebe...............
And immature Glaucous and Glaucous Winged Gulls...............
Typical late winter birds around. On the sea there was a small flock of Slavonian Grebe and also some Harlequin Duck, on the hillside above the port there was an adult Stellers Sea Eagle and back near Hakodate a large flock of Brent Geese...................

Nice series of shots. Spring is on the way.
ReplyDeleteI think you may be right...............
DeleteI have to agree about those mergansers being shy. Here I think it's because they are shot at, either deliberately or as when they are close to other wildfowl even though they are not a "quarry species".
ReplyDeleteThey are not especially shy in Japan, they're just difficult to photograph if you're a cackhanded photographer like me.........
