Pit Stops

The local fields had some visitors taking a short rest...............

Near town was very quiet except for this Osprey.............

Not many small birds about again............

Near town there was a small flock of a dozen or so Bewicks Swans. This is a species we only see on passage in Hokkaido............

There were 2 Whooper Swan and 2 White-fronted Geese with them............

At Onuma there was a gig flock of about 100 Whooper Swans and there was another pair of Whitefronts with them................

Another species we only really see on passage.

2  Bean Goose were among the swans too.................

There are 3 rarer goose species I have yet to see in Japan: Lesser White-fronted, Snow and Cackling Goose. One of these days I'll find one or more of these 3 in among the swans.............

Also in Onuma were 1 White-tailed Eagle, a flock of Crossbill passing over, a few Smew and the usual common stuff including Great Egret.

  2. Excellent pictures. I'm surprised how small those whitefronts look next to the Whoopers.
