A lone Egret
Nice weather in Hakodate the last few days.................
But not many birds about at all.
Normally I'd hope to see some Bullfinch or Crossbill ( i did hear the latter today but couldn't locate them) or some other passerines but all I could find the last couple of days were 1 Dusky Thrush and 1 Wren. Not many larger birds either: I saw only a lone Coot and the 4 common freshwater duck species.
At least there was this Great Egret icatching tiddlers n the park (note the open water: winter has finished at last).

Great Whites getting more common every day now. What is a Crossbill?
ReplyDeleteWonder if I'll see a GWE next time I'm in the UK.........
DeleteHaven’t heard the word “tiddler” in many a long year!
ReplyDeleteIs it just a UK word? What do you call tiny fish in Canada?
DeleteHello Stuart!:) These are all gorgeous images of the Egret. So many great shots of the Egret doing different things. Was it late in the evening?
ReplyDeleteBy the way Stuart, our gulls are quite civilized here, and keep to the beach. I think one of the reasons they don't bother us, is because people don't eat in the streets.
Hi, it was in the afternoon............
DeletePleased to hear you don't have antisocial gulls over there!
