Bedraggled Rosy Finches

A very wet Asian Rosy Finch near Shikabe on Sunday afternoon................

It started raining heavily after we left the Peregrine at Sawara. There was a flock of 30 or so Asian Rosy Finches in one of the ports.

They were feeding in the mud and snow nearby...............

It was very dark and the flock was very wary....................

We'd stopped off earlier at Onuma to give the Nuthatches and friends a Sunday breakfast...............

Nothing else especially noteworthy. The usual ducks and wildfowl (including a few Brent Geese which seem to be rather sacarce this winter), I didn't notice any eagles at all along the coast.

Hakodate was quiet last week: no Waxwings yet. I did see Kingfisher, Peregrine, Great Egret, Varied Tit and Daurian Redstart but nothing posing for photos.

Anyway the rain and mild weather stopped....................and was replaced by low temps and a raging blizzard. Monday has been a write-off and we'll have to dig ourselves out tomorrow if we need to go shopping.

  1. Bedraggled or not, Asian Rosy Finch is a fabulous species.

Nice to see the usual "Sunday Brunch" diners, too.

  2. The Rosy Finches turned into muddy finches, poor birds. I love your other bird captures,... nice that you feed them.

  5. Maybe you should rename them " Not So Rosy Finch"?
