An eagle up close.............
I spent a couple of hours in Yakumo this morning..................
Not as many eagles as a couple of weeks ago but still plenty around. This sub-adult White Tailed Eagle was very close............
At 700mm again, handheld. Sometimes we have too much reach..............this one is uncropped.
As are these 2, as I backed away to try and fit it in.
That nasty old salmon it was eating was actually being nibbled at by Whooper Swans................I thought they were vegetarian.
These are cropped very slightly, just for composition.
It was mild and almost windless so I popped off the teleconverter.................I managed a fewmore shots before it flapped off.
There were only a handful upstream. Looks like they ate all the salmon up there.............

A great experience being this close to an eagle, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is, Hokkaido must be one of the best places on earth to get close to them (though the ones near me aren't especially tame, this was taken from a bridge).
DeleteIt's a bit of a luxury to have to back away to photograph a bird, especially one as magnificent as this.
ReplyDeleteNow I'll probably decide what I really need a 300 f2.8 on a second body for these situations..................(hope my wife isn't reading this).
DeleteGood stuff Stu, seems you have a lot of opportunity for these wonderful photos. Here in the "sunny south" I bemoan the absence of birds in my garden. Time I moved back up t'north !!!
ReplyDeleteYes Derek, nothing good ever came from having to live in the south of England.
DeleteIt's a great series of pictures. I hope the crows got their share of the salmon!
ReplyDeleteThey get more than their fair share of my garbage........................
