Some more early April birds.........
We were out west on Monday.................
Lots of signs of spring migration................like these Bewicks Swans.
On the west coast there was a small mixed flock of Waxwings. This is a Japanese and the top one is a Bohemian.
There was a big flock of Rook near Kikonai. They all flew off before I could take a picture. Well all except this one.
I got my first Bullheaded Shrike, Little-ringed Plover and Common Sandpiper of the year as well as this male Red-flanked Bluetail. This is by far the earliest I've seen this species................
Other stuff around included Bran Swallow, Great Egret, the usual wildfowl including Whooper Swan, Brent Goose and Harlequin Duck, 4 Asian Rosy Finch, Peregrine and White-tailed Eagle.
My main target was actually Ospreys. I waited at a likely spot but all I got were a couple of flyovers in nasty light............
There were several Slavonian Grebe offshore with some coming into summer plumage. A bit far off for a photo............
On the way home I noticed an Osprey feeding right next to the road. I wasn't quick enough and my settings were all wrong. I'd never make the grade as a pro photographer..............

Some nice captures. I haven't seen a waxwing since 2009. Would love to find another.
ReplyDeleteThanks Russell.........
DeleteSaw the first two local Ospreys yesterday.
ReplyDeleteA fitting replacement here for when the eagles move north..........
