Blue Rock Thrushes
A male Blue Rock thrush west of town this afternoon...........................
I'd left in an absolutely foul mood in the morning (after Russia's last minute equaliser) and we headed out to the place where the Peregines are nesting. The falcons were not so active but there was a pair of Blue Rock Thrush which must have had a nest very nearby..............
This is the female..................
Like I said the Peregrines weren't doing much, I guess the young have hatched now as the female was resting atop a cliff with the male further up the mountainside.
It was a grey dreary day, typical of early June when south Hokkaido gets the top end of Honshu's rainy season. Not much else of note. Lone Pochard and Scaup, lots of Ospreys fishing offshore and the usual common summer stuff...............

A soccer game can out you in a foul mood? Hmm......it's a bunch of guys running around kicking a ball for God's sake.
ReplyDeleteYou sound just like my wife David.................
DeleteI am not sure whether that's good or bad! You know I played sports avidly in my younger days and always enjoyed it, but I have never been attracted to watching it, and I have certainly never been able to understand the mass hysteria it generates, with riots, violence and general mayhem. It is totally beyond me. And the amount of money a moron get make because he happens to dribble well, shoot a puck well, hit a home run well is truly obscene. Recently I saw a baseball player who was offered $6.2 million to play for his team and he claimed it was an insult and wanted to be traded. The guy could not compose a coherent sentence and I doubt whether he ever made it beyond primary school. But he sure knows how to hit a ball with a stick.
DeleteYes they are generally overpaid idiots and the current 'fan' violence in France is unbelievably pathetically stupid.............but I still enjoy watching football.
DeleteWhatever floats my boat and all............
Last word on this...otherwise it's going to become a polemic. I have no difficulty understanding that you like to watch it. It is the reaction that it can put you in a foul mood if your team loses, or supporters of a team will resort to incredible violence, or people will spend half a week's pay and deprive their families of other things to buy a ticket, or will skip work to watch a match, or get drunk, that dumbfounds me. And most of sport now seems to be involved with drugs, money, subterfuge, bribery, scandal and so on. It seems to be very little about the noble goals of two competitors vying against each other in a healthy competitive spirit. A pox on it all, I say!
DeleteBest pics I've seen of Blue Rock Thrushes, Stu. I see them here but they are fast and elusive.
ReplyDeleteThanks Russell, I just got lucky with this pair I think.............
DeleteI didn't realise Blue Rock Thrushes occured so far east as Japan. Only see them in Menorca and Greece. Good pics Stu.
ReplyDeleteHi Phil, yes they are actually very common in Japan.............
DeleteFabulous images of the Blue Rock Thrush.
ReplyDeleteHandsome Blue Rock Thrushes....it's a pity about the football result but I feel worse about the off-field shenanigans.
ReplyDeleteThanks John, yes hope that was the last of it.
