Some summer pondlife
It was very dark in Onuma on Sunday....................
In a quiet corner there were a few birds that reminded me of home: somewhere like Mere Sands Wood maybe.
The Great-crested Grebes haven't hatched yet...............
This is, as far as I know, the only breeding pair in Hokkaido (I may be wrong). They bred last year too.
There are always plenty of Little Grebes breeding..............
Moorhens gave it an even more NW European feeling but the sounds of the forest weren't something you would ever hear in Lancashire: Japanese Green Pigeons and Narcissus Flycatcher being the noisiest.
Some Spot-billed Ducks had already hatched.............
I'm guessing the Great-crested Grebes will already have hatched by the next time I make it there. That or the ever growing vegetation will hide them completely.............

Great variety at the pond. You seem to have more than a little nostalgia for England.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could afford to go back for a visit more often. I tend to view most of the birds here through a UK prism though...........
DeleteLittle Grebes - smart birds !
ReplyDeleteThanks John.
