A Black-faced Spoonbill near Hakodate 4 years ago today. An east Asian specialty and pretty rare up in Hokkaido, this individual was only the second I'd ever seen (I've seen another one subsequently).
This young bird had been around for about 10 days or so before it headed south.
A super rarity to be sure. The irony is that after a few days in Hong Kong in February where there were a couple of hundred, it became a commonplace bird. It's all relative, I guess.
ReplyDeleteMust be a great sight to see 200!
DeleteIt's nice when you spot a rarity!
