First quarter gone...........
Not a great picture but some kind of Marten we saw today........................
So the first quarter of 2016 has passed. Very springlike weather (well it is spring, indeed I saw my first Swallow of the year today) but I have a bit of a nasty cold.............
Only common birds today.....................like these Brent Geese at Menegawa.
The common residents were at Onuma..............
Brambling, Hawfinch and Siskin were also around.

Will get caught up on your blog shortly, Stuart. Just returned from a week's birding in Cuba. No swallows here yet and while we were away there was a damaging ice storm. The weather looks dreadful today.
ReplyDeleteHi David, hope you had a nice time in Cuba..........
DeleteJapanese marten Martes melampus perhaps. Latin name translates as black feet, which fits your pic. Nice looking animal - oh to have pine martens round here. Maybe not too far away they're being found in all sorts of places throughout England these days, which is good

Never seen a Pine Marten or Polecat in the UK (but I did see a feral mink with young on the Ribble). There is another black kind here too which I sometimes see................
DeleteIt's good that the Marten gave you a backward glance...Tits and Siskin nice too.
ReplyDeleteA shame the weight/shaking of my big heavy camera/lens combo made me focus on its tail though!
