Spring 2016 begins
A Dunlin near Oshamanbe this afternoon..................
A cold north wind didn't stop it feeling very springlike, we even had some sunshine......................
The aforementioned chilly wind made it difficult to hold the camera/lens steady.............
I've only seen this flock once this year but they've been in the same place for the last few winters.
All still in winter plumage as you can see.
One of them was colour ringed.
The codes are explained in this link.
It only has one tag though, one must have fallen off.
One member of the flock had been tagged in Kamchatka when I saw them last winter so we can probably assume this one was too.
The shinkansen (bullet train) opens next weekend in Hakodate and Deep Purple (!) are performing here in May.............the excitement never stops.

I wonder if Deep Purple qualify for "Senior Discount" on the train.....
ReplyDeleteGreat Dunlin shots...ours have mostly gone
Well they must be around 70-75 years old. Can't really say I'm a big fan ( I only know 'smoke on the water') but it's amazing they are playing a small town like Hakodate............
DeleteI'm too old for rock concerts now though, something inside me died when I turned 30.
Early shorebirds are starting to show up here too.
ReplyDeleteThese overwinter here actually, the passgae visitors will be along in a few weeks................
