White Winged Black Tern

Another dark cloudy day saw us up in Yakumo and Oshamanbe looking for waders. We did see quite a few shorebirds but the bird(s) of the day was White Winged Black Tern. 2 juveniles near Yakumo. A lifer no less..................

I've seen Whiskered Tern here in Japan (and also in Australia) and Black Tern in the UK and Germany................so now I have the full set of marsh terns..............

Not great shots, they had gone by the time I was able to change the settings...............

My 6th addition to my J-list this year. I'm slowly creeping up to 300...............only another 15 to go.

  2. Great bird. Maybe you'll hit that magic 300 when the winter residents start to move in.

    1. I've seen most of the local winter stuff except for a few seabirds and several rare and local species...............I'd have to go further south to look for species that don't make it up to Hokkaido.

  3. Lol, I often wonder what you'd consider to be good shots, given how good your 'not great' ones are :P
