Broad-billed Sandpiper

Whilst camping we heard of a Spoon-billed Sandpiper reported near Tomakomai so we went to look for it............

Sadly we couldn't find it but there were lots of waders around by way of compensation.

Most interesting was this juvenile Broad-billed Sandpiper. Only the second one I'd ever seen............

We could drive onto the beach so it was easy to get some close up shots.............

There was only one among lots of Red-necked Stints...............

So it was worth the dive.................
