Another Weekend Away #1
An Eastern Curlew near Yakumo a couple of days ago..................
We stayed overnight near Oshamanbe, hoping to see lots of waders.............
But we didn't. Only a few were around..................
The curlew was with 2 Whimbrel.
BIF shots at 700mm on a monopod are tricky..............
They blend into the background quite well as you can see.............
Other waders around included several Greenshank at various locales, Kentish and Little-ringed Plovers, Common Sandpiper and the inevitable Red-necked Stints.
Also around were Great and Little Egret, Great-crested Grebe, Osprey, Buzzard, Japanese Green Pigeon and a lone (very early) drake White-winged Scoter............

I would be very happy if Red-necked Stints were "inevitable" around here!
ReplyDeleteThey are the 'default' small wader in east Asia.........
DeleteFE Curlew, one of my favourite waders ! but outnumbered by Eurasian here.
ReplyDeleteOther way round here John.........
