A wet day to end October................
We did find a Grey Heron at Onuma with an absolutely huge frog it had just caught.
It tried to swallow it many times...............
I had no idea the local frogs grew to this size.................
It was very dark, these pics are a bit mushy.
It went down the hatch eventually.
That frog is an incredible size. I have never seen one anywhere close to that. Quite a meal for the heron!
ReplyDeleteIt'll take a week just to digest it!
ReplyDeleteThey always seem to "get it down the hatch" somehow...but as you say, digestion may take a while !
ReplyDeleteI waited a bit to see if it vomited the frog back up. It didn't.
DeleteGreat behavioral sequence. First thing I found in japan was that the frogs were big and the bats were tiny. Where I come from the bats are huge and the frogs are tiny.
ReplyDeleteBoth tiny in the UK............
DeleteWell he certainly will not go hungry for a while Brilliant shots Staurt
ReplyDeleteIt won't be able to eat (or fly) for a few days I'm sure........
DeleteHello Stuart!:) Wow! I like your title,:) and it is a huge frog. Incredible captures of the Heron doing what comes naturally, even if it takes a while to get the frog down his throat. Looking at some of these images, I would have thought it an impossible feet. All the best.:)
ReplyDeleteI never thought it could swallow it but it did.............
