An afternoon off..............
A rarity these days.............yesterday afternoon I had no classes so I could take a walk down the river for a coupls of hours.
There were 3 species of Heron. 2 Great Egret, the above one was very skittish but the other wasn't. It kept catching tiddlers, shame I couldn't ge a clear view..............
There were also 2 Night Heron...................
There used to be a lot more of these but the trees where they roosted have been chopped down. There are still a few big trees in small parks along the river: I was surprised to see a Grey Headed Woodpecker in one of them as well as a Great Spotted. In the remains of the long grass next to the river were 1 or 2 Red Flanked Bluetail and 2 or 3 Daurian Redstart (my first of the winter).
Pretty warm again but I'm a bit busy with one thing or another over the next 10 days or so.............by the time I get out again winter may have arrived, or at least be iminent. Last winter was mild, maybe 2015/16 won't be................

ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteIt's been very mild down here so far, winter bird variety is okay but numbers are low...
ReplyDeleteVery mild here too, still even a few dragonflies buzzing around.
DeleteA very nice series indeed. Are you taking classes or teaching them?
