North Hokkaido Trip 2014 #4
I went back to the tame Siberian Rubythroat when the light was a little less harsh..............
I even made a short video...................the blue in the background in the video (and almost all the photos) is the sea by the way..............
It was a little bright, I should have used a ND filter (which I don't have but anyway).
Definitely the bird of the trip...................
It was nice to find a non skulking individual that didn't fly off as soon as eye contact was established.........................
I only ever see this species on passage near Hakodate, usually in early October and they are not easy to photograph (or even see).

I enjoyed the video, and would never have guessed that was the sea and not the sky. Some really good images there. I reckon a polariser might have been good too if they come in that size,
ReplyDeleteActually you can use drop-in filters, perhaps I should consider one for videos.................
DeleteHey, been a while - I must catch up with your blog! (And mine, ugh). You might like to know I saw a red kite just east of Preston this month (and a kingfisher, less surprising, but my first ever), and a cuckoo of all things near Lytham St Annes - rather pleased with those! :) (Apologies if this is duplicated - feel free to delete this one)
ReplyDeleteRed Kite is still missing from my UK list...........................
DeleteYou're much more likely to see them nowadays. I know people down south who see them every day (lucky so and sos). They seem to be spreading...
DeleteUltra good!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteWow amazing series of rubythroat shots, Stu!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ayuwat, this one performed nicely for sure....................
DeleteWhat a luxury, having so much light you need an ND filter…. great shots of a great bird.
ReplyDeleteHi John, yes I never really thought I'd have too much light with a 500mm lens...................
