The Crossbills were still around today, I had another brief break from work................
They were in the trees behind the public toilet (which is closed in winter). Not the nicest place......................
There were 5 or 6 of them............with at least 3 males.
It was a bit dark in the shade..................
I'm busy the next few days................will they still be around next week?
Do they extract seeds from the cones to eat? Some well timed shots there.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what they do....................
DeleteSome great shots there Stuart. I must try and get some Crossbill shots but nearest are Stocks but I don't think they are as obliging as your local ones.
ReplyDeleteHi Phil, I guess it is much easier where I am as the ones here are often in small parks with low trees.......................and now they are reduced to scavenging cones on the ground.
DeleteHI Stuart All great shots. it will be interesing to know when they do leave so keep checking in on them. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret I think they will probably stick around another couple of weeks.......................
DeleteI like the shots of them on the ground with the cones - never seen that behaviour other than in your recent series.
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note - haven't you attracted enough attention from Hakodate 5-Oh without hanging around the public bogs?
The thought did cross my mind that I was looking a bit suspicious....................but the toilets are still closed for the winter.
Delete"Bogs"! I misrread that as 'blogs" and was puzzling over the meaning for a minute or so. Haven't heard them referred to as that for a long long time..................
