Wader season at last #2

We stayed near Tomakomai one night last weekend..................

We checked out a couple of likely looking places for waders to the east of the city..............

At Mukawa there was Mongolian Plover, Red Necked Stint and Terek Sandpiper. Nothing posing for the camera, this also included Great Egret, a juvenile Peregrine and an Eastern Marsh Harrier.

At Atsuma there were more waders including a small flock of Black Tailed Godwit, some of  them seemed to be adults with some summer plumage remaining............

They looked pretty tired...............

This species tends to be scarce near Hakodate as they prefer freshwater and there isn7t much suitable habitat for them compared to other places in Hokkaido.

  1. Hi Stuart! This is my first visit of the day, to see your photos, always a pleasure to see your captures of sea birds. Looks like you are getting better weather!
    Cheers.

  2. Some lovely Godwit shots there. That touch of breeding colour really adds to their appearance.

  4. Really nice BIF of the flock - they are extra smart in flight.
