A Black Footed Albatross off Tomakomai 3 years ago today. This was my first pelagic trip and it was a very successful one.....................6 additions to my Japan list and 5 lifers. This was my first ever albatross (we also saw Laysan) and it was pretty exciting, they were even tame and approached the boat for some squid handouts..................
Thanks for clicking this link.......

Hi Stuart Wonderful shot. I have only been on 1 pelagic trip and they brought albatross on to the boat to measure etc. very exciting.
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret, I agree, pelagics are great and well worth the expense/discomfort................
DeleteA very cool picture. I'm yet to see an albatross. I'd love to as they're about the most handsome os sea birds.
ReplyDeleteYou can see them from various ferries on the Pacific side of Japan..............
DeleteIt seems odd to see such a brown albatross - have only seen white - grey species. Pelagics are a great experience.
ReplyDeleteI think this is the only brown one. We don't ghet too may species of albatross up north..............
DeleteSplendid... this would be a Life Tick for me...
ReplyDeleteI agree that pelagics can be fantastic...
Hi John, I've heard they are quite easy to see from commercial ferries off Japan...........
