North Hokkaido 2015 #4

We left Monbetsu and headed north...............

My wife wanted a nap so we stopped off at one of the capes on the way. Of course there was another pair of Siberian Rubythroats there. They were busy bringing food back to the nest..............

The male then started singing on the fence around the edge of the car park....................

We visted another wetland/grassland area near Hamatonbetsu. Kestrel (scarce here), White Tailed Eagle, Black Browed Reed and Middendorfs Warbler, Reed Bunting and Sand Martin were all present as was a small flock of waders..............

Wood Sandpipers. What were they doing in Hokkaido in early July? AFAIK they don't breed this far south. They couldn't have bred in Siberia already surely? Non breeding individuals on their way back south maybe?

Oh and there were more Rubythroats here too..............
