It always seem to happen that when the best shots are possible you are not ready. I don’t have the sophisticated equipment that you have but it seems to me that a couple of dedicated photographers I know spend as much time changing lenses and settings as they do taking pictures. And even when they get a great shot they still always seem to think that if they had tried a different lens or setting it might have been better. Satisfaction seems hard to come by.
I think the problem was more that one finally came close enough for a decent shot but I messed it up a bit and most were out of focus: I wasn't ready. Usually they're too far away in the middle of the grassland. I may not get another chance for ages..........Not a big problem in the great scheme of things though.
Nice capture, Stu. They are commonly seen out in the middle of the wetland areas here in winter but I have never been close enough for a shot like this. Well done!
It was the closest I've managed to get to one that's for sure........
