Some more Tattlers...........

There were still some Grey-tailed Tattlers in town on Sunday............

This is the 'default' medium sized passage wader in Japan and they are as common in spring as in autumn............

Nice weather as you can see.............

These are all adults of course: in autumn they are vastly outnumbered by immatures...............

I discovered that the flagged bird I saw last week was the same individual that I'd seen in May 2013. It had been flagged in Queensland in 2012 and was aged at 2 years when it was banded..........making it 8 years old.

So the same group from Australia pass through Hakodate in May every year I suppose. Nice to still experience a little wonder sometimes.............

  1. There's one thing for sure. When I eventually do find one around here, there will be no mistaking it with those bright yellow legs.

  2. Hi Stuart
I love your last sentence. People go about their daily business without realising there is a wonder all around them. Thank you for sharing the wonder and fantastic photos of the long distance traveller !

    1. Thank Megumi. It is amazing to think how many miles it must have traveled over the last 8 years.
