A grey Friday in May

I couldn't do much birding this week................

On Friday I had a couple of free hours and I checked Kamiiso. Not much around: 1 Osprey, 4 Shoveler, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Goosander, 2 Common Sandpiper and 3 Grey-tailed Tattler.................

The Saunders Gull has long since gone but there were still lots of Black-headed Gulls which always look exotic in summer plumage and their noisy cries evoke lazy summer days back in England............

The padis haven't been irrigated yet so there were no waders except this lone Little-ringed Plover..............

A couple of days ago there was a flock of Crossbill in the west of town but like I said it's been a quiet week.................

The peak period of most years is the first half of May but 2018 is a tad indifferent so far. Hope it improves, soon.............

  1. A tattler would be a good bird in Britain. A mega. Even more so in Menorca.

    1. A bit grey and boring against those clear blue Mediterranean skies............

  2. I always think that the Little Ringed Plover is one of the most delightful of all shorebirds.

    1. A shorebird that hardly ever appears on the shore ironically..........
