The snow just keeps falling................

Another big dump of snow last night................

Winter 2017/18 has been a lot colder and has seen a lot more snow than recent winters.............

Here's a Kingfisher against a snowy background at least.............

By the time I got the monopod/TC ready it had of course flown off.

The Waxwings are still around....hope they stick around until my next free morning/afternoon.

A bit quiet birdwise roday. At Onuma the Falcated Ducks appear to have left. No Baikal Teal either. Or Smew. Just Mallards, Spot-billed Ducks and Whooper Swans.....................

Actually this was the most interesting bird at Onuma today.

Just a Vega Gull I think. A bit odd in its choice of habitat though. And rather pale too.

Here's one on the coast later the same day.

A very variable species.

Coincidentally I met 3 young Japanese birders yesterday from Hokkaido University who are doing a research project on Vega Gulls involving rings and GPS transmitters.

Actually these days you probably need a PhD in Gull ID just to identify all the myriad of large white-headed gulls............

  1. Hello Stuart!:) Pretty Kingfisher shots, and the swan in flight shots are amazing. But for the head and chest markings on the Vega Gull, it looks very like a Herring gull,...nice capture with the wings open.:)
