A lone Diver...........

A Red-throated Diver in one of the ports to the north of town yesterday...............

These pictures look like they are black and white but I assure you they aren't............

Usually when I see this species in ports it is sick or injured. This one seemed fine and even flew off later too.

The light wasn't great as you can see...............

It was pretty close.................

  1. Hello Stuart,:) Happy New Year! Beautiful images of the Red-throated Diver. He has a sweet face, and elegant lines. I'm wondering why so many get injured or sick. Do you know why?

    1. I guess they usually spend winter on the open sea and only visit ports when sick or injured. Hence most of the ones we see close up are not doing great: this one excepted...........

  2. Always a great bird to see - especially a healthy one.
