That time of year again

It's wader season again..............

The weather is still terrible: it's been raining a lot and I haven't seen blue skies for at least  a week.

The waders have started passing through and there were a couple of Sanderlings to the west of town this afternoon...............

I think they're both adults moulting into winter plumage.

At first they just stood there.............

Then they started feeding...........

Terrible light as you can see..................

The nasty weather at least meant the beach was empty...............

  1. Great shorebird migration underway here too, but Sanderling is a rarity. I have seen them on Lake Ontario beaches, but seldom.

    1. They are usually the first waders to pass through here and are fairly common. Exclusively coastal though.
