Bird of the month..............

In the fading light last Sunday after a long day out of town we stopped at the local port to watch the Rhinoceros Auklets again................

There were plenty again and they were feasting on sardines.

This species has definitely been bird of the month for June 2017. I'd barely photographed them before............

They seemed to have bits of half chewed fish in their beaks..............is that to be regurgitated for their chicks later I wonder?

You could see the sardines clearly in the water next to the pier.................

A great bird to have locally anyway....................forgive me as I indulge myself.

  1. Simply superb, more I see your pictures more I think I should have come down to visit you rather then go to Teuri Island!

    1. Maybe I'll see some young on the sea in a few weeks time?

  3. That's a super bird and a very apt name with that bill.
