A grey morning by a lake

We stopped by Lake Toya on the way back from our trip..............

There were several drake Mandarin around, I snapped these from the car window...............

A bit of colour on a grey morning.

I also found 3 Grey Tailed Tattler, this is by far the commonest passage wader and as you can see it occurs inland too.

Their plumage matched the grey skies, grey water and grey rocks..............

  1. Boy it would neverbe a grey day if I saw a Mandarine duck on the lake. great shots of the wader also

  2. Nothing like a Mandarin to brighten up a grey day. That tattler is an elegant looking shorebird to be sure.

    1. I never tire of the Mandarins and I've always liked waders/shorebirds since I grew up close to an estuary.

  4. Nice that the lake was so smooth for the Mandarin shots.....as far as ducks are the gaudier, the better !

    1. The smoothness compensated for the greyness..........
