Late winter continues........

Some Smew at Onuma this afternoon..................

Another long drive around south Hokkaido but not much posing for the camera. On the west coast there weren't many birds at all, this distant White Tailed Eagle was on a beach but flew off as soon as I got out of the car. Probably my last eagle shot of the winter....................

Smew are regular visitors in small numbers at this time of year but are so shy, BIFs are all I seem to get.

This Grey Heron on the same half frozen pond was much easier...............

Another sign of spring..........small groups of Whooper Swans in the ricefields...............

Other stuff around today included Goshawk, Hawfinch, Siskin, Great Egret and a dozen or so species of duck........................
