Still no winter

A Common Buzzard outside Hakodate yesterday............

Still no winter to speak of, it was a clear sunny mild day yesterday but unfortunately I had to spend all afternoon hanging around in hospital. My polyp was benign as it turns out but the test results were such that another check within a year is necessary, god I hope this won't be an annual occurence from now on.

One silver lining though: the (very minor) op I had triggered an insurance clause and I got a tidy lump sum that will be handy for the upcoming holidays and I also bought myself a pair of snowshoes. Now I just have to wait for some snow.

The Ural Owl continues to show well in Onuma.

Despite the great weather not a vintage day for photos. The AF and general IQ on the 7D2 continue to frustrate me sometimes.

There are several Common Buzzards in the ricefields in winter..........

Hawfinch, Daurian Redstart and Great Egret in Hakodate. the usual stuff at Kamiiso including Black Necked Grebe..............

And at Onuma there were White Tailed Eagle, Siskin, Black Woodpecker and Smew as well as the more common stuff..........

  1. Same here weatherwise, 14c and people out with lawn mowers, wtf is that all about? Mind you on the upside there are lots of Brent geese around so it must be cold somewhere. I like your owl more than the long eared variety we had down the river.

    1. We get Brent Geese here too. That is still the only Long Eared Owl I've ever seen.

  2. Good news for your results. I think Britain must be taking your share of winter weather as well as yours from what we've seen on T.V. We're just heading into hot weather with 39C forecast for Saturday, and we've had less than average rain for winter and spring so its very dry, and I think bird numbers are down.

    1. 39! My god. Don't think I could handle that at all. I think I prefer floods.............

  3. No snow here either. Just more crappy rain and grey skies. Your Buzzards look so plain compared to our own or maybe it's just the fact I cant get closer than 100yards to take a good picture.

That owl is just the absolute poser.

Enjoy your snow shoes. I got new wellies.
