A bit of a lull

A bit of a quiet fortnight just passed me by....................

Today I was in Yakumo. These Pintail and Shoveler were being pursued by the young Peregrine below.

Autumn ducks and raptors have been around.............Scaup, Wigeon, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Teal, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Goshawk, Common Buzzard................

But not much to photograph, just cropped images of this White Throated Needletail, a cause of sore arms.

Still a few Swallow around too. This young Night Heron was on the river near my flat last week.................

Great Egret, Japanese Green Pigeon, Osprey still around but not much posing for the camera.

England made it a hat trick of World Cup major team sport group exits in the last 15 months................wish I'd put some money on that.

  2. Welcome back Stu, hope you had a good break. Love the pics as usual. Had a young Perigrine causing a stir among a flock of Turnstones the other day.

    1. Hi Derek, I can recall the first Peregrine I ever saw (on Longton Marsh), you might even have been there!

  3. The Needletail is worth sore arms for - nice shots.
And Liverpool shall have a new manager soon - perhaps things will improve!

    1. Thanks John.

I'm immune to managerial comings and goings, my head says they'll still finish 5th or 6th. Again.

  4. Great captures, Stu. A good season for young duck hunters. I really like the needle tail too! A bit of a challenge, that one?

  5. Actually, I'm really into the rugby at the moment. Two teams doing well. Makes up for the ashes a little.

    1. It will be embarrassing if Japan make it into the second round after England flopped. Having said that I'm not a big rugby fan, I didn't even bother getting up to watch England v Australia (luckily enough as it turned out).

Football (soccer) and cricket (esp the Ashes) are a different matter, I take those much more personally although every passing year I'm finding that I care a little bit less.............

  6. I've given up trying to photograph swifts. They are not called so without good reason.
