Tokyo..........................

We set off to England 3 weeks ago and had a night in Tokyo on the way.................

I wanted to add Little Tern to my Japan list, I'd never been to Tokyo in late spring/early summer time (well never with birds in mind) so I made time to visit a small wetland reserve near Haneda Airport.

Annoyingly it was closed on Mondays. I had seen a couple of terns from monorail so I hung out in a park on the river for a while and was rewarded with several flyby Little Terns............

It was humid and overcast and for the whole trip I only had my old 7D/100-400 combo...............still mission accomplished.

Tokyo does have various birds we don't see up in Hokkaido, there were also some Azure Winged Magpie in the park too.

Severl common wader species were on the river..........Ruddy Turnstone, Whimbrel and lots of Grey Tailed Tattler.............

On the way back to Haneda we sat on the other side of the monorail.............and just a couple of stops before the airport we noticed a rather large Little Tern colony atop some buildings..............somewhere to visit next time then I suppose.

I did see rather a lot of terns in England mind you.

I'll catch up with all your blogs over the next few days, thanks to those who commented whilst I was away.............

  2. Your presence in England didn't seem to boost the National Cricket Team....I like the idea of a Tern Colony on top of a building...Welcome Back.

    1. Well I haven't been in the UK for an Ashes victory since 1985, don't know if that is a good omen or not.

  3. Good to see you are so committed, Stu. We sometimes get Little Terns here but I still haven't photos as good as these. Tokyo has some surprising places for birds.
